4 Week Italy and Spain - Brighton
Join us as we taste our way around Italy and Spain discovering the amazing diversity of unique indigenous grape varieties that these two important wine countries have to offer.
Did you know that there are over 350 grape varieties authorised for winemaking in Italy's DOC and DOCG regions. We won't be tasting them all sadly but you will get a good feel for what Northern Italy, Central Italy and Southern Italy have to offer over the first two weeks of the course. We'll be trying wine from Piedmont (Gavi, Barolo, Barbera), Tuscany (Chianti Classico), Marche (Verdicchio), Abruzzo (Montepulciano), Campania (Greco and Agianico), Puglia (Primitivo) and Sicily.
There's so much more to Spain than Rioja and Cava. Over the second half of the course we will take a more in depth look at exciting regions that are being rediscovered by a new generation of winemakers have only recently started to work their wonders with the UK consumer. We'll discover the fruity whites of the North West including Albarino from Rias Baixas, Verdejo from Rueda and the up and coming Godello plus reds from Bierzo and Toro. The excellent Tempranillo reds from Ribera del Duero are a great alternative to Rioja. Elsewhere we will discover Catalonia regions like Montsant and Terra Alta for up and coming wines whilst also looking at the hotter regions of Jumilla and Yecla too.
