World of Wine - Explore Australia and New Zealand
A lot of people think of Australian wine as reliable, fruit-driven wines with lots of oak. This tasting will set the record straight. The world of Australian wine is far more complex and so is its climate. There are hot, warm, cool, dry and wet locations in Australia and they all make totally different wines. There are also a growing number of small boutique wineries where the winemakers concentrate on producing limited quantities of hand-made wines of superb quality (in contrast to the mass-produced big brands) – these are the wines we will be tasting. Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, & dry Riesling!
New Zealand is fast becoming the benchmark for New World Sauvignon Blanc (from Marlborough), but there is much more to these two islands than that. South Island also produces some wonderful Pinot Noir & stunning zesty Riesling, whilst the warmer climate of North Island is home to delicious Cabernet and Merlot and fuller, softer, riper, white wines.
